Is it sinful to not sing as loud as possible at Mass?

The only time that volume of your singing might be sinful is if you are singing very loud in order to draw attention to yourself.

I have a problem in this area. I do have a loud voice and can hold a tune. In addition, most men in the congregation either don’t sing, or sing very quietly. So I try to sing loud enough to be heard and to encourage others to sing, but also not so loud as to draw attention to myself. I sometimes find myself doing the latter, however.

But then it becomes an impossible problem when I am visiting a parish where nobody sings

Whatever gifts we have we can have a tendency to show them off, however that doesn’t mean we should suppress them.
