Is it the sin of gluttony?

Absolutely agree. Eating disorders aren’t a sin. I can’t call addiction a sin because of the physiological component.

I’m actually wondering what gluttony means anymore. Perhaps the occasional overindulgence that you otherwise could have controlled?

I would see gluttony more as occurring when a person has a pattern or habit of overindulgence that isn’t caused by a compulsive disorder.

A one-off event, like an extra helping at lunch once in a while or a big dinner at Thanksgiving, shouldn’t be cause for a person to think they sinned. If you’re habitually eating or buying a lot of junk you don’t really need, then maybe it’s time to rethink your moderation.
