Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That’s no offense; it’s a freedom scene…
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all…
In silence alone we must meditate,
God’s name is prohibited by the state.

We’re allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks…
They’ve outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the ‘unwed daddy,’ our Senior King.
It’s ‘inappropriate’ to teach right from wrong,
We’re taught that such ‘judgments’ do not belong…

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles…
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It’s scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school’s a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

Jesus said, ‘If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father.’
If you aren’t ashamed to do so, please pass this on…
Even better, get off your butts and do something about it.

First of all, that is a terrific poem, especially for someone so young.

As a Catholic, though, I am weary about religion in schools for many reasons. This country is simply anti-Catholic - the self-understanding of Protestantism consists primarily of a contrast with Catholicism. And this is a Protestant country. And the increasingly secular sensibility of Americans is hostile to the holistic worldview of Catholicism - they are completely at odds with no reconciliation. Lastly, people are just stupid these days, and I do not trust them at all on topics like religion. I would rather my children, when I have some, learn this topic from a Catholic point of view, not from a secular one.

Now, prayer in schools I am also quite skeptical of. I think it would be awkward and actually push people away if it were mandatory. It’s just basic psychology. If you tell your kid they must do something, they see it as a burden and will want to rebel. But if you get your child to want to do that something, they will do it without a problem. I am not familiar with the position, though - do people want prayer to be mandated? Or simply allowed? Is it not allowed?

Delightful! You’re full of surprises with your heterodoxy. 🙂

This country is not only anti-Catholic (going through World History classes in public schools you’d conclude the Catholic Church is evil if you don’t do outside research), but becoming also increasingly anti-Christian in general. Parents aren’t allowed to teach morals to their children (kids can get birth control or abortions without their parents knowing… no wonder the mental health state of the young generation is such a mess). Children cannot share their beliefs in school, even though they aren’t trying to force their beliefs on others, only share them.

Also, music or holidays from Jews are Muslims are good because they give teach the kids “culture”, but Christian music and holidays (now “Winter” break instead of Christmas break or “Spring” break instead of Easter break) are considered offensive to mention because they “discriminate” against people who don’t celebrate the holidays. Yeah, whatever, if you don’t celebrate then don’t participate. But we are raising a generation of immature narcissists so I guess it has to be this way. “If I don’t celebrate, nobody can.” 😦

And let’s not forget you’re not allowed to bring in treats for birthdays anymore.

What horrifies me is that young children are given the impression that they can choose their sexual orientation and have the right to exercise it…

The power of evil increases in the world when Christians do not hold back the tide with prayer, fasting and sacrificing. That’s another way of saying what Edmund Burke stated that evil prevails when Christians do nothing (paraphrased). Christians need to become directly involved in social isssues like pro-life and pro-family organizations as well as work in their parishes to inform others to join the battle with the Church Militant against powers St. Paul calls supernatural forces.

What horrifies me is that the Courts have been corrupted by the radical Left. From banning prayer in public places to legalizing porn to the legal killing of the unborn to legalizing same-sex marriage … the justification always comes from the Courts …!
