Is it Wheat vs. Chaff or Are We All Willed to Salvation?

=Matt Tiza;8834732]Pat, I appreciate the scripture quotes, but I’m really at a loss for the distinction between those quotes and the argument that I was making regarding sin and salvation.

I understand about mortal and venial sins as well as forgiveness in Christ. To err is to be human, and we can never achieve’s Christ’s perfection however serious we may be to perfect ourselves in His image.

I’m no biblical scholar as I’ve only read through the Bible once and going on twice now. With that said I would really appreciate some generous paraphrasing and explanations whenever biblical passages are used to support an argument. The words of Christ are the most powerful that I’ve ever read, but when used as talking points the intended messages of those quoting them are not always obvious to everyone.

Here are the facts, which by the way have a history in the Old testament.

Because man can sin: man does sin.

God abhors ALL sins, but not all sins are viewd by God as equal.

Sins by the necessisty of God’s Divine Nature [Justice and Fairness] must fall into at least two braod catagories. Lesser sins called “venial” and Sins of such magnatude that they effectively sever our personal relationship with God, until confesses and remitted.

The Only acceptable manner for the forgivness of sins [in ordinary or common circumstances] is the sacrament of Confession; through a Catholic priest. Which as I said does have a history of God using priest in a similar role in the OT.

**2nd. Peter 3: 14-17 ** “Therefore, beloved, since you wait for these, be zealous to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. And count the forbearance of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, beware lest you be carried away with the error of lawless men and lose your own stability

**2 Tim. 4: 1-4 **”I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word, be urgent in season and out of season, convince, rebuke, and exhort, be unfailing in patience and in teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own likings, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander into myths.”
