Is it a sin to go to a club and dance to secular music?

If you feel the Club is an ocasion of sin dont go. Stay away from it.

Music and dance are two of the great pleasures in life. How many of us have met our future spouses at dances? It’s quite possible to enjoy dancing without having any thought of being sinful, just be aware of the effects of any alcohol imbibed ( beer goggles and a reduced sense of judgement for a given situation :D) and take care of yourself. 🙂

P.S. Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding so a moderate amount of alcohol must be alright:thumbsup:
 
Have fun.
Just be careful not to over imbibe.
Don’t go home with strangers. If you have a date, bring along enough “mad money” to call a taxi.
 
The more I read these boards the more I think that people are afraid of everything being a sin.

Although I don’t believe in a god my phylosophy is to have some fun, lead a good life, and you’ll be good to go all around no matter what you believe in.

If you’re worried about sin then worry about the big stuff. Don’t let the details consume your life or prevent you from having some fun.
 
In and of themselves I do not think having a drink or dancing is a sin. That said, I am sure both can become sinful - drinking in excess, forms of dance that cause erotic pleasure (there is another thread about grinding be main style of “dance” in certain regions). Oh, and of course what often happens outside the bar…

it can be a condition known as scrupulosity. it is related to OCD (or CDO for those so afflicted)
 
If you’ve had issues with the club environment that you know would lead to problems, then avoid the place as it is a near occasion to sin. Drinking lowers your willpower and you will sin if you continue.

Going to the club/bar with the “get lucky” mentality is already a sin and wrong, whereas just going to club/bar may not directly so be a sin… so make sure if you go to the club, its not with that in mind at all whatsoever. If you get tingly inside and feel like you’re being bad, its probably bad and dont do it. Even if you don’t feel bad, don’t do it because its a near occasion unless the club got rented out by a Christian organization and its no alcohol LOL .

Exactly. I would also say that it depends on the type of dancing. If it’s the bumping and grinding type of dancing where sexual acts are practically simulated during the dance, it is most likely a sin. It may only be a venial sin but it is still most likely a sin nonetheless. If it isn’t a sin, and I’m not completely sure if it is a sin or not, it is still an occasion of sin. For example, it could prove to be scandalous behavior if another Catholic sees you dancing in this way and it offends their conscience.
 
In short, generally no. It depends on the kind of dance, of course. I’ve been to plenty of dance clubs in my life. A few dances, like ones that involve a lot of grinding, could be considered venial sins, and if one were to get intoxicated to the point of impairing themselves, it could be a issue, but in general, go have fun! Most people should be able to figure out what’s clearly inappropriate. No problem at all from the Catholic perspective.
