Is it wrong to kill animals?

I am not sure what makes you say that? Catholicism says quite clearly that in moral theology, that the end never justifies the means.

I don’t think Christianity teaches that killing animals for food is intrinsically wrong (though it could be in certain situations.) But** if it did**, then circumstances wouldn’t make it ok in some situations. A starving person could not in that case justify killing a dog to eat, or killing the guy next door to eat. That is pretty much a given in Christian theology.

Similarly, if Hindus came to the conclusion that to kill animals for food was intrinsically morally wrong, then the fact that an individual was starving would not make it right somehow. I wouldn’t expect Hindus to sacrifice their moral imperatives to convenience any more than Christians, even if I think they might have the wrong end of the stick on the moral imperatives.

Just for the record, Gandhi never uttered that quote and, when push came to shove, he valued human life as superior to that of animals. For example, he sanctioned the killing of monkeys to protect crops, and killing stray dogs. He even went as far as to put down a cow in his ashram, contrary to Hindu sentiment though it was.

As for the animals, the Church is clear. No more important than rocks or trees.

Gandi DID say, in his autobiography, that animals were on the same level as humans… i read it for myself…

There was a story, I think it was in one of the movies, that Christ first realized His Divinity when after He cried over a dead bird, He found He could bring it back to life.

We don’t have to believe this, however. But I’m sure Christ wasn’t cruel to animals.

Remember too, sacrificing the best lamb you had by a high priest was made under the Old Covenant. Christ Himself replaced the animals in the New Covenant. Did I phrase that correctly?

i don’t like the bird thing… Jesus had more serious things to cry over… like how many people would reject him and end up Hell…

but anyway… Jesus also never told us to all become vegetarians…

Absolutely right on!!! Turn on the TV or go to the movies. We make entertainment out of killing people, and nobody bats an eye about that. Our society disrespects ALL of life.

Tv & movies show nothing but … killing: war, other forms like serial murderers in the streets… murders in cop shows…murders in courtroom shows… humans being killed right & left…

but if there was a show about an animal being killed!!! Watch out, here comes PETA and a big freaking lawsuit…
