Is it wrong to partake in the communion of another Christian denomination?

I was recently at a Protestant wedding and, before the commencement of the ceremony, was looking through the “program” of the wedding and noticed that there was going to be a communion service in the wedding. I began to wonder whether I should partake in communion considering I was not of Protestant faith. Luckily, the communion service turned out to be only for the couple getting married and I didn’t have to make a rash decision. However, I am still curious - is it wrong for a Catholic to partake in the commuion of another Christian denomination? I would like to think so, since Protestants can’t receive Eucharist, but I’m not sure.

Hi,

First of all the Catholic Church is not a denomination. It is the only Church Jesus ever founded and it’s history goes directly back to Him.

The Catholic Church does not recognize the validity of Protestant eucharists. Many Protestants consider it to be only a symbol. For a Catholic to receive such a eucharist is to give witness to some degree in its validity. This would be a serious sin for a Catholic who understands this.
