My wife and I are both devout Catholics. Coming out of Easter, my wife always has these questions in her mind: “Is Judas a sinner? Didn’t he just play a part of God’s plan? Without him, would God’s plan be fulfilled with other means, other people? What happened to him after his death?”. Can you enligten us?

being part of God’s plan doesn’t exempt us from being sinners.

we are all sinners, so yes, judas was one, too.

whether he is damned is another question. we are taught by the church that we can’t know if any certain person is damned or not - so we don’t know.

did he play a part in the plan? sure. so did the roman soldiers who beat Him, nailed Him to a cross, made fun of Him, spit on Him, and beat Him in the face with sticks.

were they sinners? of course. were they redeemed?

let’s hope so.

We are all sinners; his most noteworthy sin was making the choice to betray Christ. Judas still had free will and chose money over Christ. I can not say I know the mind of God; but I am sure it was his will that things transpired as they did.

Jesus is being betrayed, reviled, spat upon, degraded, defied and tortured every day all around the world. Do we protest? ignore it? fight against it? participate in it? give active encouragement to those doing it? We all have a choice, as the disciples did who knew Jesus.

Judas was a human like everyone else and as a human capable of sin. The only human besides Our Lord who didn’t sin was Our Blessed Mother, that is all.

Like others said, is he damned to hell for what he did, giving into despair? Only God knows his fate, you never know if Judas in the last moment asked God for forgiveness and had a contrite heart. You never know.

There is something interesting, some people believe that Judas offed himself to find Jesus to ask forgivness, who knows.

Being a part of God’s plan certainly does not exempt us from sin however, could it be that Judas’ sin was a part of God’s plan. How do we know? What can be done if one’s life is a mission, a “needed” part in the “show”?

It seems there may have been little Judas could do about his part in the show if he indeed “would have been better had he not been born”. Matthew 26:24. Judas life was for our salvation? A “necessary” sin?

My mind clouds when thinking of possibilities had Judas used “free will” to “set” the “plan of salvation” on another course. How I long for clarity of mind, heart, and soul upon our hoped-for destiny of heaven! Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner!

I thought Judas was dammed to hell since he killed himself. I thought suicide was the only sin that left you destined for hell since you could not ask for forgiveness.
