Is kneeling in front of a statue a sin?

This is a common situation when a Protestant tells a Catholic what he believes in.** Better to ask a Catholic what he believes in, who after all is the person who knows what he believes in.** Of course Catholics don’t say they worship statues. They are responding to the person the statue represents.
This comes then to the question of asking someone else to pray for us. It could be a friend or someone in heaven.
To say a Catholic worships a statue is, actually, out of touch with reality.

Well there are levels to these things…

…not all who call themselves “Catholics” are knowledgeable of the Faith; some “Catholics” have taken liberties with what/when/how to Fellowship; some espouse themselves with non-Catholic beliefs and practices as well as with social developments and principles.

…and while Protestantism does seem to be removed from the Catholic reality, their realism is based on the personal’s/group’s understanding of the Faith–they embrace what they believe to be correct even if what they hold as “correct” is based on “personal” understanding or bias or foundational flaw.

…then there’s the “tool” portion of their trade–marginal Catholics, both the poorly catechize and the disgruntled, are easily lead astray with promises of “new heavens” and “secured salvation” through the manipulation of their ignorance and complacency and hubris… convince one of these “Catholics” of the Church’s error and false teachings and they’ve created not only a proselyte but a staunch anti-Catholic. (I am going from my personal experience on this–have not made a study on the causes and effects.)
