I was recently informed that catholics are free to believe in a 4th final destination, called LIMBO. From what I was told, this new “limbo” is different from the Limbo mentioned in the bible (aka Sheoul) “abrahams bosom”. This new LIMBO is not heaven, and not hell, and is “kind-of” like a natural state of happiness, almost like a utopian earth or something.
I find this 4th state convenient, because it could explain where potentially a lot of non-catholic’s might end up, if they lived relatively “good” lives according to their conscience and heart, and natural law. For example, say you were born into a strongly buddhist family and culture and died at age 10 (several years after the age of reason), and even heard of the gospel, but never converted, does this child merit heaven? How about if he was 25yrd old? You can come up with countless other examples where they are NOT “invincibably ignorant” but also never baptised.
So…my simple question is…as a devout Catholic, am I allowed to believe in this 4th state of final destination, or is it against Catholic teaching?
