Is lying to friends okay or not okay?

hello

i am a very private person and am very keen on protecting information about myself. so when friends ask me about where i live, where i work or any other information about myself. i am tempted to lie about everything and make up stories simply to protect myself. i am certainly against lying to my friends, but am deathly afraid of who they may tell (i.e. my enemies who are their friends). still, is it sinful to lie under any circumstance? thanks.
