Is Marx's or Maslows hierarchy of needs compatible with Catholic teaching?

In my political science class they have introduced Karl Marx as part of our curriculum. particularly his “hierarchy of needs” pyramid. I understand maslow did a similar one.
Is this model compatible at all with Catholic teaching?
I know Marxism itself isn’t, but this model by itself?

I would like to know if I should complain to the school for teaching false + Marxists philosophies.

Thanks!

Look at the fruit of Marxism. Did anything good come out of Communism? It’s not a hierarchy of needs. It is a hierarchy of selfishness that should not be taught in a classroom. I would complain anytime a murderous dictator is taught in the classroom. It’s false teaching. Compare his hierarchy of needs to the Beatitudes, see if it measures up.

There is nothing explicitly incompatible with Maslow’s hierarchy. It’s a stretch, but I’ve even seen good comparisons drawn to it in marriage prep material that was completely orthodox.

Why do you believe there’s something wrong with learning about political ideologies (even failed ones) in a political science class? If this isn’t a Catholic school, your complaint seems unwarranted. Even if it is, again, I don’t understand the issue…

The pyramid I found looks precisely like a naturalistic view of the world in its purest form. It does include things that can be tied to faith, particularly morality and creativity, and I’m surprised that spontaneity is up there.

I’d say that the pyramid itself is compatible. However, it must all be taken in with the Catholic sense of morality – sexuality, for example, must be within the sacrament of marriage.
