Is Mary Full of Grace or Favored One?

So, I’m a little confused. I believe that the Angel Gabriel came to Mary and said “Hail, Full of Grace!”
I had always believed this and I still do.
But I was reading the book of Luke two nights ago and came across the paragraph where the Angel Gabriel came to Mary. But instead of saying “Full of Grace” he said “Favored one”.
Now maybe it is just my Bible that isn’t right…I’m not sure. I borrowed it from my parish, it’s the New American Bible, 1987 version. It is a Catholic Bible, but I wondered why this word was changed.
Can anyone explain to me why this Catholic Bible would say this differently?

Thanks and God Bless!

Katie,

The following links should assist you in better understanding the Catholic Church’s teaching of Mary as “full of grace” - as well as discerning which Bible is the best to reference. (Additionally included are several links addressing doctrines that are not explicitly stated in the Bible as well as the importance of oral Tradition.)
