Is Mass obligatory during the Octave?

My mass reading from the Magnificat for Dec 17 noted that daily masses are obligatory until the end of the Christmas octave. What does this mean?
 
Hi,

I suspect that the instruction is stating that the Mass of the Octave must be celebrated rather than votive Masses such as Masses for special needs or certain saints. Certainly, it was not directed toward the faithful having to attend daily Mass until the end of the Octave.
