If I miss mass it is usually because we are out of town, on vacation or the like. We never miss mass when we are home. Is missing mass on occasion a sin? Can I miss one weekend then attend mass the following weekend and still receive communion without confession, that is as long as I have not mortally sinned?

Hi,

The Commandment to “Keep holy the Lord’s day” doesn’t specify “only when home.” Deliberately missing Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation is a mortal sin. One is excused by illness or if one cannot get to Mass because the Church is too far away or some other reason for one not being able to attend.

But simply being on vacation or out of town is not a valid excuse. Always consult this link when going out of town on a weekend:
