  1. Why do you care anyway? Specifically, why do you care whether Mormons are Christians?
  2. You are Catholic, so what difference does it make to you if Mormons consider themselves to be Christians?
  3. Also, it appears that you started this thread for the purpose of persuading others that Mormons are not Christians. (Other than by Mormons themselves, I have seen few posts in this forum that disagree with you, so you appear to be “preaching to the already converted.”) Of course, starting this thread was perfectly OK. But why? What difference does it make to you if others consider Mormons to be Christians?
BTW; Where did your handle"StLawrenceFan" come from? Is it sports related?

Typical Mormon response.
“Uhhhh lets see I don’t have a response, and I don’t know an answer to these things…sooooo…WHY DO YOU CARE ANYWAY?” “Yeah that works!”

Just respond to the issues St.L put out there. I would like to hear some feedback to the thing B.Young here has preached from the pulpit as a “Prophet of God”

…OK,

then I guess that you can go ahead and marry the next couple to walk up to you with a marriage license from the state?

Or…you can perform a mass in your home, for your family, rather than haul them to the nearest Catholic church?

Or…you can listen to a confession and offer absolution?
You didn’t read the passage from the catechsm, did you? It describes two different sharings in the one priesthood of Christ:
The ministerial or hierarchical priesthood of bishops and priests, and the common priesthood of all the faithful participate, "each in its own proper way, in the one priesthood of Christ." While being “ordered one to another,” they differ essentially. In what sense? While the common priesthood of the faithful is exercised by the unfolding of baptismal grace --a life of faith, hope, and charity, a life according to the Spirit–, the ministerial priesthood is at the service of the common priesthood. It is directed at the unfolding of the baptismal grace of all Christians. The ministerial priesthood is a means by which Christ unceasingly builds up and leads his Church. For this reason it is transmitted by its own sacrament, the sacrament of Holy Orders.
  • Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1574
Most of the sacraments are performed by the ministerial priesthood, with two exceptions. The ordinary minister of baptism is the bishop or the priest or deacon appointed by him, but in the absence of the ordinary minister, any baptized Christian (by virtue of his/her priesthood) can baptize.* Marriage is unique in that it is the two baptized persons (by virtue of their priesthood) who perform their marriage to one another, with the bishop, priest or deacon serving as witness on behalf of the whole church.
  • In extreme emergency (threat of imminent death) any person, even one not herself baptized, can baptize so long as her intent is “to do what the church does” and she uses water and the proper trinitarian formula (CCC paragraph 1284). This is because baptism is so important and because the Lord desires for all to be baptized.

Why is it that only the antis consider the Journal of Discourses to be scripure?

don’t you think that you should put as much faith in them as we do…and NO MORE THAN THAT?

Or do you want us to start insisting that everything that any Pope has ever said is scripture to you, and you must, therefore, abide by it?

Be careful about how quickly you answer that one…😉
That’s not the point. The point is that your leaders believed and taught these weird and offensive things, and at the time the faithful Mormons received them as gospel truth

I challenge you, as I have challenged why me and all Mormons, to find any weird and offensive things taught by any pope any time. Please post them here when you find them. I’ll wait.

—Because I cannot stand posers, sheisters, con men and those who blatantly lie or twist the truth regarding religion and history. But, it’s much more than what “I” don’t like.
The fact of the matter is that Jesus is God and Jesus founded the Catholic Church 1,820 years prior to Joe’s Myth. Joe and his cult are posing as “Christians”, and that is very dagerous cult behavior. Why is it dangerous? Because the mormons through Joe and Brigham have twisted history; twisted and plagaurized the Bible for their own means. They have no right to call their twisted dreams “Christian”, because it is not Christian beliefs or doctrines that they believe in. They believe in a different Jesus; yet mormons flat out lie and say…“oh no, it’s the same Jesus”. However it is not. Jesus was born from a miraculous virgin birth; Jesus is God; there is one God (one aspect of the Trinity); one in being with the Father. God was never a mortal man; God does not have flesh and bones; man can never become God-like or a God, etc. etc. That is not Christianity; to believe the mormon cult principles is not Christian. In other words, mormons misrepresent what Christianity is all about - all because Joe Smith - the false prophet dreamed up a load of manure to start his own religion. God warned us of false prophets.

–Naw. I’m just a huge fan of Saint Lawrence, the martyr. What a wonderful human being. Incredible person, really. I don’t know of many with his strength, honor and fortitude.

btw…has anyone here read anything from Tricia Erickson? Very interesting. She’s the daughter of a mormon bishop. She says this (and a lot more on Romney, etc),** "She said: "I was born and raised as a Mormon. In fact, I was a Mormon bishop’s daughter. It amazes me that most of the world has not awakened to the false religion of Mormonism.

“I pray every day for the Lord to deliver my son, my brother and my nephew and their wives and children out of the blindness and mind control of this cult.”**

Right on.
