Unfortunately, I am a very sinful person. 😦

In all seriousness, have you ever observed a lunar eclipse where the earth’s shadow is cast on the moon? If and when you do, you will notice a rounded edge to the shadow.

For that matter, how do flat-earthers explain lunar eclipses? They require the Earth to pass between the Sun and the Moon

Thanks for catching that! I understood what his position was - it was just a typo on my part. I meant to say geocentrism.
Heliocentrism (the belief that the Sun is the centre of the created Universe) is also false, and this belief was what got Galileo into trouble. 🙂

The current hypothesis is that the centre of the Universe is some kind of heavy dark matter that is keeping us from flying apart by the sheer force of gravity.

Misconception. If I remember correctly, the Inquisition got mad at him for thinking science was more important than religion. They did not punish him for heliocentrism. Also, Nicolaus Copernicus (the man who made the first comprehensive heliocentric theory) was CATHOLIC. Yes, just like Gregor Mendel (genetics) and Georges Lemaître (big bang)

EDIT: Also, heliocentrism doesn’t necessarily say the Sun’s at the center of the universe, just of the solar system

Amen! Science will ultimately show the glory of God’s wonderful, magnificent creation:) God will use all disciplines of this life to reveal Himself. Remember, the Bible is a book of faith, not science, however our Great God can work through all things as He is beyond our intellects or understanding. It really is a poor witness to those who are in science but lack faith when people of faith say things like the earth is flat…it really makes Christians look ignorant and we aren’t! The wonderful thing about the Catholic faith is that they have such a open view of science and as long as you let God be the Creator, how he created is to be observed and appreciated…Praise our Wonderful Lord! (do not fear ‘science’…God is the Lord of all disciplines of study:) Alleluia!)

so well said!!

Galileo was subject to canon law - he was a tonsured seminarian (thus a clerk, at the time that meant neither layman nor clergy), and violated direct orders from the Pope not to publish on the matter.

The Inquisition tended to take a dim view of disobedient clerks - even tho’ it usually protected even the worst of them from civil law.
