My wife and I were married 30 years ago in her Congregational church. At the time, I was an atheist and admitted this to the minister. He married us anyway. Years later we both became Roman Catholic. Does our marriage need to be convalidated? Both of us were baptised as infants.

Dear fl,

The Catholic Church recognizes the marriages between non-Catholics, including atheists as valid. You do not have to have your marriage convalidated.
