Is My Masturbation a Moral Sin?

Hello, I have been masturbating mostly daily for the last four or so years of my life. I have really never wanted to masturbate and always express deep anger before and after I do this sin. I went to confession Saturday and haven’t done the act until tonight and I was very angry and upset when I felt the urge, while doing it, and after doing it. Would this be considered a Mortal Sin as it is very hard for me to control it even though I hate this sin especially I do not want to be excluded from Communion almost everyday other than Saturday Vigil Mass.

HI, Jordan. The best course of action is to speak to your pastor and ask him this question. If you do want to get some information from the forum, you can do a search on thins subject. This question has been asked many times.

Mirroring my own spiritual direction I received from a priest in the past: you may be struggling more with pride than you are with impurity, because the feelings of anger and being upset while tempted and after falling to sin are usually a result of pride (on the contrary, if we are tempted, we should not be in the slightest bit surprised by this. because it is a part of our wounded nature). When the anger and frustration goes away, you should find yourself far, far more capable of dealing with sexual desires, and in general being a happier person.

Please talk to a Confessor in more detail about this. He can offer you beneficial spiritual direction to remove this habit.

Masturbation is grave matter. To discern if culpability is lessened, you must speak to a priest.
