Is my registry office wedding valid in the catholic church

Hello. My wife is baptised catholic but not practicing. I am converting to catholic as we speak and attend both Sunday and midweek mass and am a practicing catholic. We are from England and married 9 years last month. We were married in a local registry office. What I want to know is, is our marriage recognised by the catholic church? Would we need the marriage blessed by our priest ? If I wait until I am confirmed what if any options would we have?

If you are baptized and have a valid marriage to another baptized person, that marriage is by its nature sacramental. Your wife is Catholic, though, and needed to have married according to the laws of the Church for her marriage to be valid. (“Practicing” or “non-practicing” don’t come into that.)

Talk to your pastor, and he’ll explain all the details.
 
No, your marriage is not valid because your wife, a Catholic, had to be married in the church. If neither of you has been married before, this is simple for the priest to fix. He can marry you now and you won’t even have to go to prep class. You dont have to wait till you become Catholic. If you are not baptized, yet, your marriage will not be sacramental. If you are then it will be. Otherwise, it will become automatically sacramental when you are baptized.
 
I am baptised in church of england. So if I talk to my priest he can validate our wedding?
 
Get your documents together; baptismal certificates and civil marriage license. Go see your priest and I’m sure he will fix this for you in short order. You are a little step away from a sacramental marriage, even before you convert. The longer you wait, the more you will have to confess about “living in sin”.
