Is prayer merely a monologue?

Same here. When I was in the process of discerning a major change in life direction, I opened up the Bible to three different random passages. All three contained the phrase “Follow me.” It’s nice to have those moments of clarity.

I do this with the Bible and with certain spiritual books, most often with the ‘Way’ by St. Josemaria because it contains little sayings. God often uses them to tell me something.

I do believe that prayer is my conversation with Jesus, especially when I am kneeling in front of the Tabernacle where the Body of Christ resides.

However, from time to time, I would doubt if praying is merely an internal monologue expressing our thoughts in words in the form of vocal prayers or in generation of cognitive ideas through silent prayers.

Do we pray just because we lack someone whom we can fully trust or confide to? Virtually no one in this world can be fully understood by another one, be it your parents or spouses, so we resort to prayer to resolve our solitude.

Yes, we pray because we know we can trust God unlike people. However, we pray because it is time spent with God.

We should have personal relationship with God. For a relationship or friendship or love to grow, the two persons need to spent time together.

Spending time with God causes us to know Him more, and to experience and be guided by Him.
