Is receiving Christ in the Sacred Scripture equal to receiving Him in the Eucharist?

Hello,

I am a new convert and have many questions, but the Eucharist was one that I never questioned once I learned what it was and the scriptural basis for it. We truly receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ in the Eucharist, He promised this and commanded us to partake, in rememberence of Him. As the Catechism states “The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life” (1324).

Recently, I was told that reading and meditating on the Word of God was receiving Christ also… “For this reason, the Church has always venerated the Scriptures as she venerates the Lord’s Body. She never ceases to present to the faithful the bread of life, taken from the one table of God’s Word and Christ’s Body”. (103). From this, the it is interpreted that receiving Christ in the Eucharist and receiving him in Scripture are equal.

Can you comment on this as this confused me as it seemed to imply reading and meditating on scripture (the Word of God) was equal to receving the Word of God in the Eucharist.

Dear L & F,

Certainly, Jesus comes to us in Sacred Scripture. But Sacred Scripture is about Him. It isn’t Him. The Eucharist IS Him. As well as we can know Him by reading about Him, this is not equal to encountering Him in the flesh. In the Eucharist we encounter Him, body, blood, soul and divinity. Absolutely nothing can equal the Eucharist!!!
