Is Sister Faustina’s Divine Mercy Devotion something to avoid?

With all due respect, people should really refrain from making comments and/or judgments about subjects they have not studied. I recommend that anyone truly interested should read the “Preface” and the “Introduction” to the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska. Also see the links in my earlier post for reliable sources of information. People also need to understand the dynamics of private revelation. I recommend the book, “A Still, Small Voice: A Practical Guide on Reported Revelations” by Fr. Benedict Groeschel. Also, the Diary has received the NIHIL OBSTAT and IMPRIMATUR which are declarations that a book is considered to be free from doctrinal or moral error. The previous ban was due to faulty translations but with the help of Karol Cardinal Wojtyla (John Paul II) the ban was lifted by the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. By the way, St. Faustina’s Feast Day is celebrated on October 5 and the Church celebrates the Feast of the Divine Mercy (Divine Mercy Sunday) on the second Sunday of Easter (a plenary indulgence can be obtained on this day).

We walk by faith. I believe in the Saints. If you read through there lives the common thread is that they were often scrutinized extensively for the graces they were given. Look our Lord Jesus Christ. As for me I would pray any prayer that has been within the Church, that would bring souls into Heaven.

Yeah, since she’s a canonized saint, we have nothing to worry about.

Our Lady said similar things to the kids at Fatima (other than noting that Francisco would have to say many rosaries to get into Heaven).

You’ll find similar things in the writings of other mystics who’ve been canonized.

Besides, what Christ says to one person, is personal. Yes, the content of it is meant to be read by 'a great number of souls who will profit from it, but remember it is still her writing it, not as a teacher, but as a lover.

She loves God, and they will have their own language, the same as we do when we are with God. It is like Scripture in that sense (though not as authoritative), whereby it is not the words that are important, it is the truth behind those words. The bible has inconsistensies, yet in context, there are none.

The message remains constant, and this is why it is so popular and wonderful. It is a message of God’s unfailing mercy towards us. He lets the world know through Sr. Faustina, the nature of that aspect of his Heart which is Mercy, so divine and mysterious. But, like God, it is here, and it is for the taking.

had bid me to do, I heard this voice in my soul: From now on, do not fear God’s
judgement, for you will not be judged.”3 (From Feb. 4, 1935)

*Galatians 1:8

8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.*

-‘Don’t be concerned with judgement, God won’t judge you!’ Sounds like a different gospel to me.

others to have a share in the juice that is flowing within you.”

On page 191, “Jesus” says to her: “For your sake I will withhold the hand which
punishes; for your sake I will bless the Earth.”

Having read her diary it appears to me the Jesus she describes is infatuated with her, not the type of true love that exists between God and His created, but this “bridal chamber mysticism” where young women begin to mistakenly identify themselves personally as the bride of God instead of the Church.

Communion on the hand is permitted by the Church. So what’s the problem? Are you one of those “traditionalist” nuts that thinks anything other than receiving on the tongue is heresy. These same traditionalist nuts also believe that EWTN is evil.

An assurance of salvation, no free will and God wills all actions, even sin… on what authority? Hmmm, the Church, the Holy Fathers and Scripture… what other authority should I appeal to?

I’ve read a summary that there is much in her diary that was found to be problematic and as a result was put on the forbidden books up until after Vatican II.

**On page 23 of the book Divine Mercy in My Soul (The Diary of Sr. Faustina), it says: “…
and the host came out of the tabernacle and came to rest in my hands and I, with joy,
placed it back in the tabernacle. This was repeated a second time, and I did the same
thing. Despite this, it happened a third time…”

On page 89 of the book Divine Mercy in My Soul, it says: “When the priest approached me
again, I raised the host for him to put back into the chalice, because when I had first
received Jesus I could not speak before consuming the host, and so could not tell Him
that the other host had fallen. But while I was holding the host in my hand, I felt such
a power of love that for the rest of the day I could neither eat nor come to my senses. I
heard these words from the host: I desired to rest in your hands, not only in your
heart.”

On page 260, “Jesus” says: “For many souls will turn back from the gates of Hell and
worship My mercy.”**

The first problem is the promotion of
Communion in the hand, which is supposedly endorsed by Our Lord.

Second, we see unnecessary praise heaped upon this sister. We see things said to her supposedly
by Our Lord that wouldn’t foster humility, but vanity – that she is basically the greatest thing in
the world. We don’t believe Our Lord would ever instruct her to tell her superior that she is the
most faithful daughter in the Order. Our Lord could have told the superior such a thing, if he
wanted it known.

All these things considered, the Divine Mercy Devotion is something which should be avoided
by Catholics. Catholics should say an extra rosary or the Stations of the Cross instead.

My addition to what so many others have posted so well already:
One note here to add to those who may be unfamiliar with the short time that the Diary and St Faustinas writings were under review. This mostly was due to a mistranslation. The Archbishop who reviewed the writings and presented the report to the Vatican was none other than Archbishop Karol Wojtyla. He found nothing wrong with the writings and neither did the Vatican. He was greatly devoted to St Faustina and the message of Divine Mercy… Many even call him the “Mercy Pope”

No to answer the posters question? I see nothing wrong with a devotion or writings whose intent [and fruit] are to bring people close to God.
