Is St. Joseph in Heaven BODY and Soul?

I have heard it said we don’t have a physical (body) relics of St. Joseph. I think I also heard that there is NOT a tomb. Can it be assumed that St. Joseph was also assumed into Heaven body and soul as the Blessed Mother?

Short answer - No ​

Many things have been “piously believed” at one time or another, such as the Assumption of Moses, or of St.John the Evangelist - or this one. This does not mean or even imply that they have any basis in history, revelation or theology; the Church too has its legends.

The absence of remains proves nothing - there are no bodily remains of St.Joan of Arc, but it does not follow that she was assumed into heaven; that would be difficult, as her ashes were thrown into the River Seine. The reasoning that infers an assumption from the absence of bodily remains is dodgy; bodies are lost, misidentified, broken up, re-buried, or become impossible to recognise because of the manner of death. Most bodies in the history of the world are unidentifiable - it doesn’t follow that most past generations have been assumed into heaven

It would seem that St Joseph died well before Jesus’ public life. there would have been nothing notable about his grave. I don’t think they used headstones in those days.

I personally believe it is possible that Moses is in Heaven body and soul…but that has more to do with the Transfiguration more than legend.

Hi Dave, it is likely that Joseph died during Jesus’ life time on earth. Therefore, when Jesus was in the grave, Joesph may have been ressurrected when the graves opened and the dead were raised and entered the cities. For sure, when Jesus asscended to heaven he led the captives free ( eph 4 ), therefore Joseph was one of those that Jesus resurrected and led to heaven.

The claim that Joseph was likely died during Jesus life is based on the fact that Jesus asked John to care for his mother Mary at the foot of the cross. If Joseph were still alive at this time then Jesus making such a request makes no sense at all, unless maybe Joseph was unable to care for her, nor care for himself, in which case, Jesus would have asked John or someone else to care for Joseph too.

St. Nicholas of Flue believed that St. Joseph’s body is
preserved somewhere incorrupt, to be revealed before the end of time.

Personally, I believe he eventually received a bodily assumption into heaven. Of course, I could be wrong, but no human being other than Mary was ever closer to Jesus or had the privelege of raising the God-Man to adulthood. Can you imagine teaching God a Craft ??

My second reason for my pious belief in Joseph’s assumption is that he appeared at Fatima in the last apparition with Mary and with Jesus (under the form of the child Jesus), and Jesus, Mary, and Joseph blessed the crowd.

Still, since the church has never taken up this issue,
I wouldn’t dare be dogmatic about it.

This is a private revelation. According to public revelation, Enoch and Elisha were taken body and soul to heaven, and circumstances point to Moses being assumed as well. We’re required to believe Scripture, not St. Bridget.
