So do you guys think that it would still not be a sin even if I don’t need it and can live without it?

Bipolar people don’t need mood stabilizers and can live without them, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t take them.

Adderall is a cognitive performance enhancer that can be taken anytime one needs a boost and remain focused.

So, just to be clear, the only way taking adderall could be a sin is if you abuse it? What exactly is abusing?

Let’s say an A and B student does not need adderall to do well in school, but wants to take it to do even better. He just wants to use it to help him study and focus. Would that be abusing?

What if doctor/psychologist/whoever incorrectly diagnoses someone?
That’s the doctor’s concern, not yours. If you are diagnosed with a condition and prescribed a medication to treat it, and you have no reason to suspect the diagnosis is wrong or the medication bad, then there is no sin in taking it.

I want to start taking it again because I think it would help me in school. I could get along alright without it, but I’ve found it somewhat difficult to concentrate in class and during studying.
May I please encourage to ask yourself why am I being hard on myself? If you are a C student and C is your best please be proud of that C. It is far better to be that C student then be a fake A.

When a person needs to take medication for medical reasons by all means PLEASE take it. As another poster stated, and I also have had experience with a family members who used this to get better grades in school and one who used it to get thru drug addiction…REALLY??? We found it down right wrong because other students were now at a disadvantage because their parents wanted their children to earn their grades based on true merit, not a medication buzz.

Can you understand that? So if you decide to take this to improve your grades you may feel shame because that new A is not your true grade.
Adderall is meth based and is highly addictive. There are non-stimulant treatment plans if you are true ADD/ADHD…you may want to try them. Reports do suggest kids and parents alike sell their pills for profit in schools and in college.
Some people go as far as Doctor shop and they fake the tests to aquire Adderall. The sad thing is on line there are websites that teach so called patients how to bam-boozle doctors in ways that the patient then fits the ADD/ADHD profile to get perscriptions for it.

If you have to ask yourself if you are really doing the right thing, maybe that should give you pause i this matter. Listen to that inner voice…
You also may want to speak to an addiction counselor, you could be experiencing withdraw and now you are looking to get that feeling back. NOT GOOD…that is a warning sign.
Please be careful.

I just retired after 33 years of teaching teenagers with learning disabilities. You are only helping yourself be on the same playing field by taking your script! When my daughter was in law school the students were buying it for the wrong reasons - they weren’t prescribed it by a doctor and were using it to study for the bar exam. You are using this drug that works like a miracle for people with diagnosed ADD/ADHD. God bless you!

When I was diagnosed with ADD when I was younger, I took it for around 5 years and never got addicted nor had any withdrawal symptoms.

When I got off of it, my grades did not change (still mostly As with a B or two). I have been off of the medicine for around 3.5 years. My grades are still pretty good (I got all As last semester), but for some reason I find it hard to pay attention this semester and get As (I have two low Bs, one low A, and one high A now).

Maybe I can’t focus as well because I have those two 8:00am classes. Perhaps getting more than 5-6 hours of sleep will help.

OP, you are an amazing student. If you were my child I would be very VERY proud of you. Your grades are impressive. (((BIG HUGS)))

What ever decision you make is your’s alone. Believe in yourself and give yourself a pat on the back. Look what you have accomplished.
Sleep in college, what is that??? Be good to yourself !!!😉

Perhaps green coffee extract would be a healthy alternative? It’s helped be to focus, although I don’t have ADD–just a bad diet and not enough sleep. Please note that it does contain caffeine.

I was diagnosed with ADD when I was around 10 or so. I took it for a while, but I haven’t taken it in a few years. I think I want to start taking it again.
If it’s been a few years since you’ve taken it, you should probably be re-evaluated by a neurologist and possibly a psychiatrist, since all the meds that I’m aware of approved for dealing with ADHD do have psychotropic (mood-altering) characteristics.

If, after re-evaluation, your doctor AND YOU decide that Adderall is the best drug of choice for the way you express your ADD, then by all means take it!

I was not diagnosed with ADD until I was almost 40. I look back on my life and see so many times where my ADD interfered with my relationships and with my work, and I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if I had been diagnosed when I was much younger, and if the meds had been available then.

You have gifts given to you by G_D, your ADD being among them. Like all gifts from G_D, it is not always easy or apparent how the gifts are to be used. Other people have been given other gifts, including the gift of making medicines that can help you understand and learn to use the gift of your ADD. So long as you are taking the medicines under prescription from someone authorized to prescribe them, you are accepting help from others and allowing them to use the gifts they have been given. You are not cheating; your actions are giving glory to G_D.
