The Church’s job is salvation, not damnation. This penalty always existed with the goal of salvation in mind. Once a penalty ceases to be effective, it is rightfully dropped. We do the same thing with children.

There have been excommunications, and over the very issue you brought up, namely attempting the Sacrament of Holy Orders for women. I say attempt, because such a feat can never be valid, any more than pigs can fly.

I don’t know about schism but the Catholic Church’s efforts in these areas is encouraging to this Protestant. The church might pick up some allies from Mainline Protestants whose churches are in much worse shape and clearly controlled by the heretics with seemingly little hope for salvation. In NC we just voted on a marriage amendment and seeing both Catholic bishops standing strongly for marriage was wonderful.

I don’t see any reason why there would be. The LCWR, the dissident Austrians, et al., are dead man walking. Everywhere modernism is prevailing, the church is dying. The modernists are dead men walking. Why bother with declaring them to be in schism? They can be waited out.

The same thing is true in liberal Protestant churches. They are dying. They’ll be no one left to listen to their heresy in twenty years once the old people with money die.
