Given the promise of the Lord to Peter in Matthew 16 and the testimony of the history and succession of the Church, is it even reasonable for people to suspect that the final Pope could be under the control of Satan?

If the promises of God to His bride are sure, why would many devout and intelligent Catholics fear that the Pope at the end of time will be an apostate who causes the Bishops to rise against Bishops and bring about a false religion into the world?

Does not the promise of Peter the Roman seem to indicate that all will ultimately be well with the Shepherd of the Church during the Great Persecution?

Do most Catholics believe that the Third Secret has already been revealed?

Nope the Church is protected even from people that try to infiltrate it, I mean it has happened in the past and it will continue to happen. But the faithfull will not be let astray if we follow Her teachings. It will not from the Church of Jesus. 👍

I don’t know about Satan being in control, but we’ve had some Popes who were drinking buddies with him.

In fact, we had something of an era, known as the Saeculum obscurum, or more popularly the Reign of Harlots or the pornocracy. This was a sixty-year period in the Tenth Century that spanned the rule of fourteen Popes, none of whom ever said “get thee behind me, Satan.” This was a shameful period of Papal history.

So we don’t need to speculate - we can look to these wretched Popes to see how they carried out their Office. And, without exception, we do not see any of them attempting to enshrine their evil behavior in Church doctrine. When they acted officially, they never acted in an evil manner.

The authority of their Office remained in place and uncorrupted. This reminds me of a similar situation in the Jewish Church of Jesus’ day, which was filled with sinful leaders. But Jesus instructed the Apostles,
The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat [we would say Peter’s seat]. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. [Matt 23:2-3]
In a way, the pornocracy strengthens the Catholic position on Papal authority. We’ve had sinful Popes, but none have ever tried to meddle in Church doctrine. Guess what? Jesus is true to his word! The power of Satan may have prevailed over Popes, but it has never prevailed over the Church!

There was a period in the 20th Century when Russian Communists under Stalin infiltrated both the Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church in the Soviet Union in order to discredit them. In some cased they had KGB and NKVD agents pose as Priests, hear confessions which were then related to the communist authorities. who then arrested the person. In other cases the communists actually sent young agents to enter seminaries, become priests, and rise in the Church Heirarchy. All to cause people to lose their faith.
At one point in the 1950’s and '60’s, the Orthodox Church in Russia was so permiated with secret agents that very few of the common people trusted the clergy. It wasn’t until the 1980’s with political liberalization in Russia that the Orthodox Church was able to purge themselves of “false priests” and renew their clergy.
The communists tried the same thing in Poland, especially when they tried to replace the True Church with the scismatic Polish National Catholic Church after WW II. However the strength of the Polish Church and the true belief of the Polish people doomed their efforts to failure.

There really is no need for conspiracy theories. We breed our own sedition in the Catholic Church. 10% of the country is ex-catholic. Only 20% of people who say they’re still Catholic even show up at Church for 45 minutes a week. Half the people who are our worst nightmares in America are…catholic. I won’t name them because of forum rules, but I’m sure you’ll have no problems naming them for yourself this year.

About your last question, I’ll share a little tip. Google "3rd secret of Fatima forumscatholic.com, and magic WILL happen! 🙂

There will be a false religion at the end of time led by the Antichrist and his false prophet, I don’t know how that will play out exactly, I do know that I trust Jesus’ words about the fact that the ship of the Church will never run aground even if all hell breaks loose in the ocean around it. God bless.

Pope Leo XIII who wrote the prayer to St Michael the Archangel said that the smoke of Satan had entered the church. He experienced a horrific vision prompting him to compose the prayer. Given that the Bible is the definitive, authorative, inerrant, infallible Word of God we can therefore be absolutely certain that everything prophesied in Daniel, Revelation etc. will come to pass in due course. How exactly it will unfold we do not know and probably just as well. God in his infinite wisdom has revealed to us just enough to prepare us without giving us the gory details and thus frightening us to death. What a wise and magnificent God He is.

We have been assured that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church. The church is the people of God therefore who knows what form the church will take during the end times, last days, tribulation etc. I am sure the true and faithful church will be very, very small at that time. There will be a great apostasy and and a great falling away. Are we seeing the playing out of this even now?

The true and faithful church may not even be within the formal, hierarchical, official structure we are familiar with. Who knows?

The church is not impervious to infiltration and never has been. Remember Judas?

Those doing the most damage to the church are within its fold and will claim to be devoted Catholics - wolves in sheeps clothing. Our Lord has warned us about this.

Christ and his Church will prevail however. We can be sure of that. As St Padre Pio wisely said: “Pray, hope and don’t worry”.
