Is the Douay-Rheims the best Catholic Bible around right now?

For Christmas I want to ask for a personalized, leather bound Bible but I want to make sure I ask for the best one out there.

I currently have an NAB that has all kinds of inserts for studying purposes.

I am sure some will say the DR is the best, while others won’t. I would just suggest you figure out which approved Catholic translation you like to read the best, then go with it. No translation is perfect, so if you like your NAB, then perhaps get an upgrade of it in leather. Same goes for the DR, RSV-CE, NRSV-CE, JB, or NJB.

Have you seen drbo.org ?

It has the complete Douay Rheims for reading online, incase you wished to see what it is like.

the Douay-Rheims is my translation of choice. It is a complete Catholic Bible. However the best Catholic Bible belongs to the Latin Vulgate. I would consider it the best English translation. A lot modern Catholic translations seem to wishy-washy. I am still trying to accept the RSV-CE. These however are my opinions. Only you can decide what works the best for you

What changes were made to the NRSV-CE that can be called “Catholic”?

At least, for the RSV-CE (1965-66) the changes made to the original RSV are listed in an Appendix. Unfortunately, the editors of the much-hyped (in this Forum) RSV-2CE could not produce such an Appendix.

My main Bible is the RSV-CE. It is an outstanding translation. I have seen them nicely bound in leather.
