Would the book of Genesis, not being a science book, be just a tale of the historical beginning through Symbolic Metaphor with earlier stories Noah and the Flood? Could it be way more about all life or even the future? Is Noah a story about God delivering his followers in the end? How should I read the book of genesis then? realism or Allegory?

If you take it as literal science, you’ve missed the point.
If you take it as a fantasy which is only being an interesting story, you’ve missed the point.

The point is that it is about the lessons that we can learn from it.

Whether it is true, or false, or what metaphor it is symbolising are all besides the point.

we are free to take the first 11 chapters of Genesis literally or not.

Its up to us. When you get to Abraham, you start reading about Jewish ancients and their history, and their relationship with God.

Do a search on Graham Hancock and Randall Carlson. They suggest the flood was very real. They are not young earth creationists nor are they Catholics to my knowledge, but they have a pretty solid case that the flood stories from this time could have really happened and been due to an asteroid or comment impact.
