Is the Kingdom of God a Place or State?

It says in Scripture that Jesus said “I am going to prepare a place for you, so that where I am, you too can be” which would indicate that the Kingdom of Heaven or the Kingdom of God is a Place. On the other hand I have read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church that it “may even be Christ” and also that" in the Eucharist, it is in our midst". Christ said at the Last Supper that “The Kingdom of God is close at hand”. All of this confuses me and I just can’t get a handle on it.
