Is the Order for a Communion Service online?

I’m sure there’s a book in my parish library with the Order for a Communion Service, but I’m not in there right now, and I’m a bit curious at the moment. (My parish priest is on vacation, and no other priest showed up for Mass this morning, so we had a Communion service.) Is it online somewhere?

Why a spur of the moment Communion service on a weekday? That is not recommended by the Church unless there was no Mass on Sunday and no possibility of Mass next Sunday.

Why not celebrate Morning Prayer instead?

There is a book called “The Order of Sunday Celebrations Without a Priest”.

It basically is the Liturgy of the Word, Prayer of the Faithful, and Communion from the Reserved Sacrament.

Really? I didn’t know that (and I’m guessing neither my pastor nor Sister knew). Edit: Ah, Redemptionis Sacramentum (which I have read!), nn. 162ff. Edit 2: And Sacramentum Caritatis, n. 75; as well as Ecclesia de mysterio, Art. 7. I have read those. I just didn’t remember their contents on this matter. Now I know.

My parish is not “equipped” for Morning Prayer, as far as I know… I didn’t bring my Book of Hours with me, and the only other person I know who has one at Mass is Sister (who led the Communion Service). Granted, we don’t all need books, but I also think the concept might be a bit foreign to even those who come to daily Mass. We only pray Compline in the parish on Monday nights at the end of the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament (and we have booklets for it). We have “evensong” celebrations a couple times a year, but that’s not really Vespers… (even the name “evensong” is of non-Catholic origin).
 
I’d also like to point out that this was not a scheduled Communion Service, but rather a scheduled Mass for which no priest showed up. The 8:00 AM bells rang, the congregation waited, but no priest entered.
 
I only asked to make sure that the person who conducts the Eucharistic services is a mandated Extraordinary Eucharistic minister…and apparently your resident religious is.

Yes, Sister is an EMHC.

Interesting that you ask that because in the Canadian “Sunday Celebration of the Word with Communion” Rite, the person who leads the Celebration is different from the EMHC who does the Communion Rite.

If followed to a T, our celebration involves:

Leader of Prayer
Reader 1
Reader 2
Gospel Reader (we do have the option of having the Leader of Prayer do this, an option we’ve usually exercised)
EMHC who is responsible for all the Communion Rite including introducing the Lord’s Prayer, saying “This is the Lamb of God” & saying the Prayer After Communion.

At least in the United States, the Sunday service instructions are not applicable to weekday services.
