If the confescion of sins, meaning “I confess to almighty God and the you my brothers and sisters…” is being omitted at mass, is that a big deal.

The new priest at our parish skips over it. It seems wrong to me but perhaps it is not mandatory and I should relax.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

There are three options for the Penitential Rite in the Ordinary Form:
  1. There’s the one you mention “I confess to Almighty God and you my brothers and sisters…”
  2. There’s one with three invocations to Jesus followed by Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.
  3. And there’s Have mercy on us, O Lord. For we have sinned against you. Show us, O Lord, your mercy. And grant us your salvation.
Using any of the 3 options is permitted but one of them must be used. It doesn’t render the Eucharist invalid, but it is illicit to omit.
