Is the seriousness of a sin sometimes impossible to assess objectively?

I have heterodox tastes in music, only feel attracted to metaphysical atmospheres: Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Paganini, etc.

  1. Should I always mention the music that I have heard in my confessions?
  2. Should I listen catholic music only?
  3. Listen heretic music is a mortal sin?
I get two answers here from my post How to know if a song is satanic?: 1. Listen catholic music only. 2. Listen any music you like, just be cautious with the abstruse lyrics. (but it isn’t 100% safe).

The gravity of the sin? That’s an objective determination.

Whether a grave sin is mortal, though? That’s a subjective determination.
  • Should I always mention the music that I have heard in my confessions?
  • Should I listen catholic music only?
  • Listen heretic music is a mortal sin?
“probably not”, “not necessary”, and “unlikely” are the answers that come to mind.

Be at peace.

On the website parareligions there is a document entitled The Ordo Templi Orientis Phenomenon, written by Peter R. Koenig.

Under the second subtitle entitled Articles on the History of the Ordo Templi Orientis there is an image composed of several personages, among them, is the image of David Bowie dressed as a pharaoh, and on one side of the page it is written: Some protagonists of the Ordo Templi Orientis.

On this website there is also a document entitled David Bowie - Outside, Aleister Crowley, and the Holy Grail.

Hmm… a baseball analogy comes to mind…

“Parareligions”? Hmm… strike one?

Bowie? Crowley? Strike two…?

OTO? Occult research? Umm… strike three?

Not sure what this has to do with your original questions. I’m gonna call this batter “out on strikes”… 🤷‍♂️

Do you know who was Aleister Crowley?
Can you prove that the sources Koenig consulted to write his books are not reliable?

Do you have knowledge on the subject of rock and satanism?

Have you read books like I Protagonisti Invisibili by Leo Talamonti?

Yes. Still not seeing how this is relevant to the question of whether sin is an indeterminate concept or what music you should be listening to.
Because anyone could be listening to relaxing songs like David Bowie’s Absolute Beginners without knowing that Bowie was a member of the satanic secret society O.T.O. and fanatic of the occult.

It is imposible, objetively, to know if an artist has made a Pact with the Devil, for example.

Isaiah, chapter 28:15:

Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement.

King James Version.

Then it would not be a sin to listen to their music, if that music isn’t overtly calling on Satan. One would not be materially cooperating with evil, in that case.

Monsignor Corrado Balducci states in his book Adoratori del Diavolo e Rock Satanico, that Alice Cooper (Vincent Fournier) performed a satanic ritual in which he accepted to be possessed by the spirit of a Salem witch that was called Alice Cooper, in exchange for fame and fortune.

From his autobiography Me, Alice:

It reminds me Isaiah 28:15.

But his lyrics were never satanic:

I read on a christian website that these songs contain satanic subliminal messages: Transmission by Joy Division, Empty Spaces by Pink Floyd, Heavy Metal Poisoning by Styx, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, Revolution n ° 1, Revolution n ° 9 by The Beatles.

No one would suspect that these songs and/or albums are satanic. (If they are)
  1. What would be the probability that these messages were pure chance?
  2. Would you allow toddlers to hear those songs?
  3. This satanic music “filter” was recommended to me in this forum.
Is this the best filter you recommend?

The best filter I can recommend is your mind, which should be able to resist Satanic influence. Maybe not. The suspicions generated by Msgr Corrada and similar authorities should be backed up by some credible evidence. If that convinces you, then you should be able to discern what is good or not.
