Is the sinlge life a legitimate vocation?

I don’t know why people say being single is a vocation. I do not try to be single or strive for this as a goal. It is sometimes difficult to be at Mass and feel excluded, as we (Catholics) are so family orientated and I don’t have a family. I’m 45 years old and doubt I will get married. What do you suggest I read or do to be content with my life?
