Is the wording of the consecration at Mass all that important?

At Mass, is it valid for the priest to say “In remembrance” of me instead of In “memory” of me after the consecration or is this just semantics since they both have the same meaning?

Hi,

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal requires that “in memory” be used. Certainly, the consecration is valid with “in remembrance.” But the liturgy is not the priest’s private property and he does not have the authority to change the wording according to his own taste.
