If Catholicism is banned from Saudi Arabia, but are a few churches. Is their a diocese? How many? Is it just the Diocese of Saudi Arabia? Is their a bishop?

Thank you.

I am not sure where you got your information. All religions other than Islam are banned in Saudi Arabia.

There are no Catholic Churhes. There is no mass. Foreign workers who are Catholic pray and worship in secret. If there are any Catholic priests in SA, they are there in secret.

There is no diocese in Saudi Arabia.

Sort of. It’s the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia avona.org/saudi/saudi_about.htm
Note though that it is not “in” Saudi Arabia as such, as 1ke said, and as careful reading of the information on that link will show.

Recently the Apostolic Vicariate of Arabia was divided into Northern and Southern; Northern being Bahrian, Kuwait and Qatar as areas that have parishes, and Catholics in Saudi Arabia fall under the care of this Vicariate; UAE, Yemen and Oman are in the Southern Vicariate (catholic-hierarchy.org/diocese/darab.html)

The mistake can be in seeing Arabia as being only the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; the Arabian Peninsular contains many independent countries which allow different levels of Christian presence within their borders.

There are no churches. Christians have to practice in secret. It is truly an incredible thing to see.

Bishop Paul Hinder oversees the Southern Vicariate while Bishop Camillo oversees the Northern Vicariate of Arabia.

JD27076,

As a person living in Saudi Arabia, I can assure you that there is ZERO churches, diocese, etc here.

Even the Bible is not allowed to enter through the customs, if discovered they will send it to the shredder, as shown in this incident.

What best we have here is to visit foreigner people who live in closed secure compounds and worship together inside their homes without the knowledge of the religious police

Correction: The faithful can go to mass at their local diocese with Saudi Arabia, since the embassy is not technically under SA law. 🙂

Read my post above 🙂

The Philippine Embassy holds Masses for the Filipino Foreign Workers there. Being technically Philippine territory, I think the priest is under the authority of the Archbishop of Manila.
