Is there a ban on gay priests?

I heard on the news this morning that there is a proposed ban on ordaining gay men to the priesthood and the Pope is expected to sign this document. How will this affect the ordained priests who are gay? How would they know who is gay and who isn’t? Isn’t this a different stance than former Church teaching?

Dear R,

The directive from Rome concerns not accepting applicants to seminaries who say that they are gay. This does not affect priests who identify themselves as gay.
