I was just wondering because I have both the American flag and the Vatican flag. And when we usually take down the American flag, we fold it how it is taught. Be we just fold the Vatican flag like we wold a piece of paper.

I’ve never heard of a proper way to fold the Vatican flag but this certainly piques my interest.

Flags are always treated with respect due to they being the graphic representation of the people of that nation.
It goes back to the old testament where the 12 tribes of Israel each had their own banner (flag).
In the middle ages when 2 armies waged battle losing one’s flag brought dishonor and the flag bearer was heavily defended for that very reason.
I am familiar with the folding flag ceremony of 3 countries and all follow the same “instruction manual” 😄
I would assume the same should apply to the Vatican’s flag for the same reasons.
Peace!

I don’t think there is any special formality for folding that flag. How was the flag folded when you received it? If there weren’t any instructions with the flag, then you are in the clear.

I also don’t think there is a special way to fold the Vatican flag. Americans (and I am one, myself) hold our flag in much higher esteem than other countries do theirs. We have all sorts of regulations and customs about that just don’t exist in many other parts of the world. Nor do you see other countries’ flags out and about as much as Americans display ours.

However, nothing says you can’t fold the Vatican flag like the American flag is folded. It makes a folded flag look nice really.

As a vexillologist (flag enthusiast) and Catholic I’ve looked for one for my Vatican flag but have not found one. I know a lot of resources I’d find that on and haven’t so I’m going to say no. However, friend, if you’re interested in the Vatican flag, maybe consider checking out this site:

The author also has a book published by a flag organization I’m part of, I think it’s on the website. It’s a great book, I own it.
