Is there a rhetorical device which is calling out other rhetorical devices when you have no argument?
I hope that makes sense

I’ll change the forum.
What I meant was , as an example, there are people who will post the name of a logical fallacy as a response to someone else. This pretty much shuts down the topic or derails it into a discussion of that logical fallacy. Does this have a name.

Oh, I see what you mean. Don’t know if there’s a name for that other than making a blunt accusation.

Or as I like to call it being rude.
If another poster’s comment relies on an argument in which there is a logical flaw, then there’s nothing wrong in pointing that out in your reply. That would not be rude in itself. It’s possible to do that politely, just as it’s also possible to do it rudely. Politely is recommended.

What tends to happen here is that just the name of the logical fallacy is given. That is the whole comment and to me that is rude.

Are you saying that this has happened to you? Would you care to quote an instance? Which forum, what thread?

It’s a straw man tactic. I don’t think you would term this type of attack as a rhetorical device.
