Is there a significant difference between a wedding with Mass and one without, if a priest performs it?

My daughter is marrying a devout evangelical. He is hurt that he will be excluded from communion at Mass. She does not want to hurt him or his family at the wedding and is thinking of going to Mass with our family the morning of the wedding then having a catholic service without the eucharist. Does this make a big difference? She wants to do what is best, but he really is hurt about this. He is begining to learn about our faith, but just begining. Any suggestions?

Hi,

It is very common to not have a Mass for an inter-faith wedding in a Catholic Church for the reasons you have given. The sacrament of Marriage itself is the same whether there is a Mass or not.
