I have been visiting this thread in hopes of also finding a proven method of dealing with this. I like Auntie A’s suggestion. Where I have always had an inner dialog going since I can remember, the ‘ear worm’ music is something recent. It developed when I was caring for my dying dad, 24/7. The music was my ring tone on my cell. I would hear it go off, but my phone, that lights up when receiving a call, but no call was actually incoming. I don’t even use the phone much. It’s an emergency phone. But since family was trying to keep in touch, the phone was always going off, and I was hearing it in my head even when it wasn’t.
I believe eating better and not being on-call 24/7 has eliminated the earworm music.
The inner dialog still remains. My thoughts about that, like the early cartoons where a character had a good angel on one shoulder and a bad angel on the other arguing with you about what to do or not do and why. Also constantly talking with God. Trying to get a grip on it all. Staying busy, cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing, working on service projects, helps focus that inner dialog into works and quiets it somewhat. But sometimes I want outer quiet and peace just to ‘hear God’.
