I know that Friday traditionally has been a day of some sort of mortification in the Church. But I have also heard that Wednesday was also a day of mortification in the Church. Is this true?
In the past Christians fasted much more than they do today and Wednesday was indeed a popular day on which to fast because it is popularly believed that Judas Iscariot betrayed Christ on the Wednesday of Holy Week. In modern times, fasting that is done over and above the Church’s requirements is a personal devotion.
