Is there any evidence whatsoever that St. Peter was white?

If this does not go in this area, I do apologize, to the moderators, and please feel free to move it to where it does go.

I am debating a young woman from Poland online that claims we’ve never had a colored pope, AND that its FACT that St. Peter was white.

Is there anything to back this claim up or no? I don’t think so myself.

St Peter was Jewish - in ethnic terms Semitic - which is a subset of the Caucasian race.

There were several early Popes who were North African, however this too is considered a subset of the Caucasian race.

So it depends on exactly what your friend means by ‘white’. Certainly St Peter and the others were not European if that is what she means. But they were Caucasian rather than (and this is meant with absolutely no offence) Negro. However, you might point out that St Peter and the other were every bit as ‘coloured’ as any Negro - just a different colour 🙂

More important - why should it matter to anyone?

God has called plenty of fine Negro men and women to be saints - examples that immediately come to mind being the Ethiopian converted by St Philip in scripture, St Moses the Ethiopian and St Josephine Bakhita.

Further, the Holy Spirit has conferred eligibility for the office of Pope upon a number of outstanding African cardinals, particularly Cardinals Arinze and Turkson who have both been remarkable servants of the Church. This being the case, He surely would not let something as unimportant as colour dissuade Him from effectively guiding one of these men should they be elected.

Ohfercryinoutloud!

St. Peter was a Middle-Eastern Jew who spent a LOT of time outdoors. He was most likely a nice shade of brown.

Nope she did know he wasn’t white as in European. But I did point out that he was more than likely browner skinned than pure white.

This whole thing came up when I jokingly put of a picture of Samuel Jackson’s Mace Windu as the ‘new’ pope. (because come on, let’s face it, how awesome would Pope Mace be?!)

And she responded “No, I only want white pope.” (interestingly enough she saved the picture as a fave, but from there, I know not.) zhaneaugustine.deviantart.com/art/Pope-Mace-I-355186043

She is a member of this group 8nationalsocialism8.deviantart.com/ so not sure if she MIGHT be white supremisit? shrug

I mean she MIGHT NOT BE, and is just into history and German history. She admitted it was in God’s hands, so there didn’t seem the kind of prejudice that migt say, “Well if a black person were elected, Satan got into the church,” kinda thing I’ve heard SOME ‘Catholics’ online say.

Just wanted to be sure I was right when I thought Peter brown skinned.

Dude, ‘nationalsocialism’? She’s a neo-Nazi.

Just tell her every blessed one of our Popes has been coloured - and not a blessed one of them white. Pink, olive, tan, but never white 🙂

National Socialism means Nazi.

88 is a code in neo-nazi groups. H is the 8th letter of the alphabet. So when you have 2 H’s, it’s short for “Hiel Hitler.”

Often you’ll see 1488. The 14 refers to a slogan that is 14 words long, “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.”

The person you’re talking to is a neo-nazi.

I thought that might be the case.

I just can not figure out why she ‘faved’ a black guy as the pope then.
I mean even if it IS Mace Windu, who is way cooler than Lando and Han put together, he’s still black!? So what the heck?

Well she actually said she’d respect my opinion, didn’t go all nuts so I DO NOT THINK she’sa neo nazi. Perhahps someone whose just REALLY interested in German history.

No proof either way. It’s a silly question. There is a fair chance that our next Pope may be African or Spanish. It doesn’t matter one whit. Linus

She faved him - but then said she wanted a white Pope and blathered on about the whiteness of past Popes. It’s far more likely that those written comments reflect her true feelings than a click on a ‘fave’ button.

That maybe true, but at least she’s polite enough and not extreme, ‘IF’ she honestly is, Neo Nazi. Or with luck she’s just dabbling into it, and will leave it be in time.
