Just answer the question…I was unpleasantly surprised to see them here on CAF, but I understand…

At least the ads here are all for Catholic or Christian companies, so far, without the suggestive or offensive content that too often pops up in the ads on other websites.

But yeah, it’s aggravating.

I’ve never tried one, but is anyone using one of those ad blocking programs here? Does that work in this case?

At least they are not pop up ads like those on so many sites. I find it quite easy to ignore them. It’s not like they are easy to confuse with posts.

I understand they are more annoying on the dark “theme”.

Life on the internet.

I just got onto CAF after a day off of it, and was unpleasantly surprised to see adds here.
Why are they on CAF?
Did CAF get really low on the money or something?

I can think of a couple of topics on CAF that are more aggravating than pop-up ads. 😏

Well, it it anon-profit organization, and running a site and forum isn’t a no cost endeavor. I guess they have to do something if donations aren’t sufficient. Ads aren’t inappropriate and intrusive, and are easy to ignore.

Even 'though I have an ad blocker some ads get through. My complaint is that they slow my computer down and take up ‘space.’ I think when CA changed their format they lost many supporters and members and probably do need finances. I don’t see a lot of members from the old format.

Yes, there are things at least as aggravating as pop-up ads like the websites that automatically start playing videos of something when you have limited gb internet service.

Yes people calling me on the phone wanting to sell me something or asking for my vote.

These aren’t that bad. I was on another forum where they would try to encourage donations by absolutely spamming the page with ads. Totally irritating for us grouchy old folk. They should have paid me for my participation any way, I brought such entertaining content to the boards.

If one donates to CAF, will the ads go away?

More annoying than pop-up ads? Sites that “recognize you are using an ad blocker. Please white-list us. We’re your friend, we’re your buddy”

My answer (not that anyone’s listening, nor even offering to do so)?
You first. Promise your ads will restrict themselves to a reasonable amount of screen real estate. Don’t pop-over. Don’t pop-under. Don’t pop-anywhere. Especially don’t make any unexpected noise nor autoplay videos. Then you can have your white-listing. And not
One.
Second.
Sooner.
Summary
Honestly, I do frequently make purchases based on advertisements. But I’m not seeing internet ads due to the above bad behaviors.

You probably spend in the area of $100/MO on your cell phone. Which is worth more? (Just to put things into perspective )

I don’t have a cell phone…never have…never will…

[Did you notice the pop-up ad in this thread?.. now that’s aggravating…]
