I’ve been told that there is no grace after death. It makes sense to me that there is no grace in hell and that we have been perfected, “made holy”, in heaven, but isn’t there sanctifying grace in purgatory (even if there isn’t actual grace in purgatory)?

The expression “there is no grace after death” means simply that if we are not already in a state of grace at death then we will not be able to enter a state of grace after death. There is, of course, grace in Purgatory and Heaven since we need God’s grace in order to be there at all.
