Is it not obligatory since it falls on a Saturday?
Whenever January 1, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, or August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption, or November 1, the solemnity of All Saints, falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated.
Depends on where you live.Is it not obligatory since it falls on a Saturday?
It depends on which country you live in. In the US it is not obligatory since it falls on Saturday.
See Canon 1246, §2 - Holy Days of Obligation | USCCB
Yes, I live in the U.S. Thank you!Whenever January 1, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, or August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption, or November 1, the solemnity of All Saints, falls on a Saturday or on a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated.
I wanted to make sure.
In general the bishops wanted to avoid obligations to attend Mass two days in a row (and all the questions that follow abut whether one Mass can fulfill two obligations).Anyone know why this Saturday/Monday exception exists for these specific days, incidentally?
I think you mean Ascension here. The remaining holy days are the Assumption (either falls on Thursday or is transferred to Sunday)
At least you read my mind.I think you mean Ascension here.
