Is this a mortal sin? I doubt it

Before I start, I’d like to say I’ve forgotten to confess this at confession in the two times I’ve gone -and I’ll probably confess it anyways. I’m not worried about receiving Communion now, as I already did, since I had the intent to confess it I think. I’m worried because I didn’t think it was a grave sin at the time and thus received communion.

Alright, now let’s actually talk about what I’m concerned about. I think I accidentally missed mass. Let me explain. I was at a cell phone store with my mother (this was before I knew doing unneccessary work on Sunday was bad) because she needed to buy a cell phone. Well that took much longer than needed. It was approaching 5 PM -time for mass. Well, she was still stuck trying to set up her phone, so we tried to call my father. Well, it turned out he got sick and was unable to pick me up.

Then, at I think 5:30 I was asked if I wanted to go (mass usually ends at 6:00). That’s before we even started driving (I’m guessing about 15 minutes). I don’t know when we passed the Church. I didn’t want to go in late because… well I thought I’d be really late. Plus, it would have put a bunch of unneeded strain on our family I’m guessing. And we did plan to go to Church all day… but things just seemed to “fall apart.”

Did I freely choose not to go to mass?

Missing Mass is never a good thing, but I do not think your circumstance is a mortal sin. Nevertheless, if it were me, I would confess it or at least ask a priest or deacon about it, who will likely give you something to do such as pray a rosary or spend some time at adoration.

I don’t feel that you did that intentionally. I myself have been somewhere and
did not want to go into mass late. I went to confesssion and told the
priest that I had missed mass. Sometimes if I miss mass I will go during the
week but I always confess if I have missed a mass on a Sunday.
When you go to confession just tell the priest what you just said here, I
know the Good Lord always forgives us.

sometimes those happenings are just trials given by our Lord to test our faith if you are really sincere to attend the mass… as the third commandment says that we must honor the day of the sabbath … but it could only be considered a mortal sin if these three things meet
1: is it a grave matter
2; have you done it with full knowledge
3: have you done it with full consent

try to reflect

if you’ll have to confess just say that you missed the mass and never reason out becouse when we are confessing we are actually talking to Jesus… so we must never reason out to our God just accept and repent… God bless
