Hi, I have a quick question:
I have struggled with pornography, etc., for many years. Anyway, I’ve not fallen into that area of sin in over a month. However, just now I was online and feeling very tempted. I went on a photography website and clicked on a page with “Boudoir” photographs. In all honesty I wasn’t expecting there to be nudity there, but I knew it was definitely possible. I saw one nude image, didn’t lust, and closed the site, feeling super annoyed with myself…
I hope it’s not a mortal sin because I can’t get to confession probably till the weekend and I don’t want to fall into worse sin!
Please help!
Thanks.

PS - It was an image of a woman wearing underwear but the top was see through.

IMO you’re walking a thin line. Only you know why you went to that site. If you really didn’t expect to see what you did see then I don’t think a mortal sin was committed. But, confess it anyway-can’t hurt.

I can’t know your heart, but I would treat it as if it were a mortal sin. (Ie: confess asap and before receiving communion)

Maybe also seek some clarification from the priest about the criteria for mortal sin and avoiding the near occasion of sin with respect to custody of the mind and eyes while you’re at it.

You could be right that it was not mortal in your particular instance, but I would not bet on it.

You asked a very similar question to this before, which suggests to me that CAF isn’t going to help you get an answer. Speak to your Priest.

On a practical note, could you download some software that would make such sites inaccessible to you?

If you posted here that you have full knowledge that something is wrong, that means that prior to posting your heart knew something was wrong there…

I would call that a “border” perhaps to think of when this temptation occurs

I don’t think everything is a mortal sin. Nonetheless we should attempt to avoid all sin.

Inadvertency is one of the conditions listed in paragraph 1735, why one’s culpability might be reduced or nullified. In other words, The same outward action might have different moral implications for different persons.

1735 sounds legalistic, but it is about God’s mercy. God knows our hearts. We must trust in Him.

That sounds like it could be deliberately putting yourself in near occasion of sin which can be sinful itself. Wouldn’t hurt to confess it.

I say don’t do it again, assume it’s mortal and go to confession. Until then do what you have to do to stay pure. I’d suggest the rosary personally.

Yeah I’m going to go with you here, thanks. 🙂 Went to Mass but didn’t receive. God bless.

Also good job on your progress. Focus on that rather than getting down. I’m proud of you, it’s hard.

In a previous comment, I said that every sin is not a mortal sin. THAT is the teaching of the Church.

Fr. John Riccardo of EWTN fame said once that he cannot tell if what anybody is confessing is a mortal sin. THAT is in contrast with some of the opinions expressed above which are so SURE that you committed a mortal sin.

It seems to happen every time someone started a topic like this, the answers will always be split, as you can read above. They always conclude with somebody telling you to go to confession… I guess the Catechism has no purpose, if people don’t believe in it.

Remember, when you confess this, you don’t have to EXPLAIN or GO INTO DETAIL. We are not to make the priest an accessory to our sin by being too graphic about what our sin is. (So says Fr. Wade Manezes of EWTN). DON’T tempt the priest to fall into sin.
