Celebrant Priest: “Lift up your hearts!”

Congregation: “We lift them up to the Lord!”

You are correct, it would be quite contradictory to attend Mass with an indifference of heart.
CORRECT, please see POST #53

And the Church Catholic that Jesus started comprises of individuals that believe on Him and His message. There is indeed only one true Church.

Just so you know Pjm, I am not as lost as you judge me to be.
🙂 My friend,

MANY years ago a former Pastor would ask from time to time in his homily: “WHO DIED AND PUT YOU IN CHARGE?”

He died recently, but I am ever mindful of that LESSON:)

So I endeavor NOT to judge; I teach, prompt, even direct at times; BUT I am not to judge; which like conversions is GOD"S exclusive domain.

GBY!

Since you asked I’ll pose a question!

What’s the difference between going to Mass just to avoid the mortal sin and not going to Mass at all? Wouldn’t both show a heart that is not right with God and needs repentance?

At my Church, if your hearts not in it while your there then you’re missing the point. God wants our hearts, not our attendance; though our attendance can be evidence of where our heart is.
You’ll be surprised how many ways that crafty guy up there can use to get you to see the light :D:D. If the direct way doesn’t work he doesn’t hesitate to detour using some method that appeals to get you to take that one step which he then builds on so that the end achievement of you seeing him is achieved. How many people in history from Jeremiah, Peter, Augustine etc etc etc have said no to God and then found themselves in a slow and deliberate detour led by God to greater communion with him.

If you are one of those who had a direct route to God and can see him with your hearts the Mass or anywhere else, great!!! Pray for those like Jeremiah, Peter and Augustine who had to take a longer route.
