Is it a sin to record tv shows say off EWTN, or record radio shows also EWTN? I do not sell them or distribute them. My wife and I are the only ones who listen to them, and someday my kids I suppose.

If they are only for private personal viewing then there is nothing to worry about. What a beautiful idea it is that you would contemplate keeping such treasures for your children. What example of witness this is!!

Sin only arises when people ***knowingly ***tape them in order to show them in public or escape paying for the pleasure of having EWTN installed in your home or to sell them for profit. There are conditions attached to each and every airing of a program and they are always displayed after the credits.

See, stations like EWTN who produce a lot of their own material have tapes of their programs available for purchase. Since they provide free to air programming they have to make ends meet and this is their way of doing just that.

I would suggest that you would consider sending a little donation their way as a thank you!!

I hope not, I might be considered public enemey #1:D But seriously, the last post said a donation might be a good idea. It might help channels like EWTN to continue airing these programs.

No. If what you are doing was a sin, then no one could tape episodes of favorite TV shows to watch later. I also have never heard or seen any warning (like the big FBI warning you see at the beginning of rented movies) regarding copyright infringements with regards to TV or radio shows.
